NAIL it!: Pressure/Overthrow Mechanic Clarified
Nilson,
I thought I understood the new mechanic when I first heard about it, but so many questions came up in training that I am now confused. When does the plate umpire take the runner? When does the base umpire take the overthrow? (Read full story.)

2008 Mechanics Manual Available
The 2008 mechanics manual is now available on the NBUA website (see link above). There is only one change this year, which concerns responsibilities when the base umpire reads pressure and takes a play at first base from foul territory. If the batter-runner breaks for second base when the base umpire is in foul territory (usually on an overthrow), the plate umpire will take the batter-runner into second and the base umpire has out-of-play responsibility.
This change was made to more closely reflect professional mechanics, and makes it much easier for the crew to get a good angle on a following play at second. All other mechanics have remained consistent since this manual was first published in 2005.

2008 Training Requirements & Policy Announced by Board
Attendance at NBUA training has always been a requirement to be eligible to work games for this Association and to move up through the ranks and realize the many benefits of NBUA membership. However, the specifics as to what the policy was or quantifiable amounts of required attendance have historically been difficult to ascertain. (Read full story)
2008 NBUA Training & Real World Game Management
Your input and experiences are needed! Game Management. This term is thrown around regularly at all levels of training, yet often the discussion morphs into 3 rd world and impractical situations. However, whatever this concept means, and whatever it is to improve your ability here; accomplishing this significantly improves the quality of your game, especially at higher tiers. And improving your game management is a major factor in moving from a lower tier to a higher tier in NBUA. (Read full story)

NAIL it!: Runner's Interference
Please help me with a runner's interference situation. I'll call it runner's "shuffle" interference for now. I'm talking about when the runner runs and stops just before the path of a batted ground ball and shuffles in one spot, getting in the way of the fielder but avoiding contact with the ball. What do I do? (Read full story)
