2012 Training Begins
By Gary Coy
Director of Training
The training schedule (dates/times/venues) for the 2012 season is now set.
Just as in years past, our training will be conducted on Thursdays and Saturdays in February with an additional training sessions for our Apprentices on the last Tuesday and Thursday of January.
Tier training leaders are: College, Dave Natali; A Tier, Brian Gooch and Mark Clough; B Tier, Fritz Timm and Dick Harrigill; C Tier and Apprentice, Erik Nilson and Scott Johnson.
Tracking of training attendance will be a point of emphasis again this year to ensure that all who have earned the incentive for assessment reduction for training attendance receive it. The Board of Directors determined that the assessment reduction will once again be 2% reduction for 100% attendance and 1% reduction for 75% attendance.
100% attendance is 100% FOR YOUR ASSIGNED TIER. Attendance at a training session for a tier level other than your assigned tier WILL NOT count toward the 100% or 75%, HOWEVER, it will count toward attendance.
Due to limited classroom space, attendance at a training session other than for your tier will require prior permission from the Director of Training.
For the College Tier: The Board has determined the definition of 100% attendance is attendance at BOTH college training sessions (attendance at the NCAA Clinic satisfies this requirement) and ALL the A Tier training sessions.
The Board once again has determined there will be a minimum training attendance requirement in order to be assigned games. Those MINIMUM requirements are specific for each tier:
- College umpires must attend at least one of the college sessions offered (attendance at the NCAA Clinic satisfies this requirement) in addition to attending at least three (3) of the six (6) A Tier training sessions.
- A Tier umpires must attend at least four (4) of the six (6) sessions offered.
- B Tier umpires must attend at least three (3) of the five (5) sessions offered.
- C Tier umpires must attend at least eight (8) of the fourteen (14) sessions offered.
- Apprentice umpires must attend at least ten (10) of the sixteen (16) sessions offered.
