R. Reams Goodloe, Jr.

The NBUA has, through operation of the board, its committees, and members, considerably strengthened its ability to put qualified umpires on the field, as appropriate to the level of play.  That effort, as reflected by recruitment, training, ongoing support, efficient assignment, and feedback to the organizations members, needs to continue to be supported and further strengthened.  However, existing board members have done an excellent job in meeting this basic organization objective.

Importantly, the organization appears to face some rather serious challenges in the coming years, such as conflicts with the WOA/WIAA, and various tax/workers comp and employee/independent contractor’s issues.  Such matters will require a long term vision, considerable fact finding and analysis, and communication with the members to clearly communicate choices, options, recommendations, and how various scenarios will play out as to impact on the NBUA and its members.  As a board member, I would anticipate being able to bring an analytical approach to these issues, and would anticipate being able to apply experience from negotiation of complex and difficult projects to the benefit of the NBUA and its members.

During previous years, I have served on committees, assisting Board Members charged with revisions of the NBUA’s bylaws and other key documents. Thus, I am already familiar with the basic documents which provide the rules and guidelines for governance of the NBUA.  As a board member, I would work to ensure that applicable organizational bylaws and other requirements are observed, and, where necessary, suggest changes to the Board and/or to the members, as appropriate.  Finally, if elected, I will work to assure, and improve where appropriate, communication to the membership regarding the “Board’s Work”.

I would consider it a privilege to serve the membership of the NBUA by working on the Board.  Thus, I ask for your vote this election season.
