Jay Neff

My name is Jay Neff and I am running for a position on the NBUA Board of Directors.   Before I go on, let me introduce myself for those of you who don't really know me.

Prior to joining up with the NBUA I served in the U.S. Coast Guard where I rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served honorably for 24 years.   Shortly after beginning my Coast Guard career I met and married a Seattle gal (Susan).   Together we served the Coast Guard because I am a strong believer that when we serve in the military our loved ones play an incredibly integral role in our lives.   I have three boys ages 29, 23, and 21.   I also am a very proud grandfather of two boys which, next to my wife and sons, are the joy of my life.

When I retired from the Coast Guard I was looking for something new. To make a long story short, I met Jack Miller who introduced me to the NBUA.   I have subsequently risen through the ranks of the NBUA to the "A" tier.   I have worked almost 1,400 games in 12 years, a couple of High School regional playoffs, a couple of "Mariner's Cup" games, Fall Ball (invaluable volunteer training and helped me prepare for HS playoffs) and have been privileged to work and share friendships with the most talented group of umpires in our great USA.

I love the NBUA and always pride myself in not only the games I work but have not really met an umpire in our entire association that I didn't like.   Some I didn't always agree with, but I still always looked forward to working games with them.

I did serve as an interim Director a number of years ago and was in fact on the Board when we took the bold step to bring technology to our way of life. We decided to automate our assigning system with the Arbiter. This process has enabled NBUA to evolve into the Association we know and love today.

It was my honor to serve on the NBUA Board. Unfortunately, I was a little overwhelmed and sometimes got lost a little in the shuffle. However, I never missed a meeting and I was always available to assist.

When you go to the polls here in the next couple of weeks, I ask for your vote.   I will make it my commitment to you to always be available and to work hard for every member in continuing the fine tradition of making our Association still the best in the country.   I will promise to make it my priority to communicate to the membership at all times as much as possible so there is never a question or a concern among the membership.

I look forward to working hard for you and am ready and willing to serve.

Thank you so very much for your consideration and your support.

Jay Neff (Chief)
