Chris Claflin
Good day fellow NBUA members,
There are a number of reasons why I'm running for the board this year, most important being that I feel it's time to offer my services back to the association. I've been extremely fortunate over the past four years and have benefited greatly from the NBUA. Hindsight is always 20/20 but, I sure wish I had gotten involved long before 2005.
As for myself -
By trade, I've worked as a roof truss designer all my life. I have an associate degree in mechanical design from a technical college in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. I moved to Seattle in 1994 and I accepted a job with a company called BMC-West. I worked there until 2001 when I made a substantial career change becoming a full time stay-at-home dad! That has been the most rewarding experience of my life without question.
Currently, I work part-time for the YMCA, umpire baseball for the NBUA, officiate basketball for the PNBOA and continue as a full-time Dad to my twin girls, who are now eight years old. I also played baseball in the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League for 5 years before turning to the "dark side" and joining NBUA in 2005.
What do I bring to the table?
- A willingness to listen
- An ability to communicate
- A commitment to all members to help make NBUA better.
- A passion for umpiring that I've never had before with anything else.
- Honesty with no BS. I tell it like it is, I'm a straight shooter.
- Experience as a volunteer. Before becoming an employee of the YMCA I volunteered there for 3 years. I understand the importance of having volunteers in an association such as the NBUA.
- Experience with the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League as a member for 5 years.
- Time. I have the time to commit to being a Board member.
- Dedication. In my four years I have worked over 600 games, all for the NBUA.
- Most importantly I feel I owe it to the association that has been so good to me.
I will work hard for you if elected!
Sincerely,
Chris Claflin
