Rich Connors
I was appointed as a member of the NBUA Board of Directors in 2003 to complete the unexpired term of Tim Stevens. I was elected by the Membership in October, 2004.
I have listed some of my qualifications below:
- Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, Villanova University
- United States Naval officer--active duty from 1969 through 1971
- I have owned businesses since 1972--I currently own and operate SeaTacPark.com, an off-airport parking lot in SeaTac, WA
- I began umpiring in 1992 while my boys were in Little League
- I joined NBUA (along with my two sons) in 1997
- I joined the NBUA Board of Directors in September, 2003
- Unanimously elected Secretary in October, 2003.
- Unanimously elected Treasurer in October, 2004
- I care !
Why should you vote for me?
- Long track record of operating businesses and serving on boards
- Superior communication skills
- Extensive management and budgeting skills
- I have a proven track record of producing RESULTS as an NBUA Board Member. Examples:
I was appointed Chairman of a committee to change our accounting and auditing policies. Our goal: protect the assets of the association! Our proposal was unanimously approved by the Board in April, 2004.
As Secretary in 2004, for the first time in NBUA history, the minutes I prepared from all Board Meetings were published in the Members-only area of our website in a timely manner.
As Treasurer in 2005, for the first time in NBUA history, the Membership could request and receive monthly draws equal to 100% of their net earnings. Through proper budgeting and planning, sufficient funds were always available to pay all draw requests in a timely manner.
As Treasurer, I introduced the concept that Members could earn incentives for working more games and completing training, thereby lowering the amount withheld from their earnings by as much as 50%.
As Treasurer, for the first time in NBUA history, we published financial statements in the Members-only area of the website.
As Treasurer, I developed a financial model to weigh the effect of different policy options.
I pledge to work toward the following specific objectives if elected:
- More and more Association business has been conducted under a veil of secrecy. This trend needs to be eliminated. The membership deserves to know the details of all Association business with very limited exceptions.
- Directors need to be held accountable for their actions and their votes.
- The process of collecting accounts receivable has been improved, but there is more that needs to be done. I will continue working toward the goal of eliminating collection losses.
- Continue lowering umpire assessments through a combination of growing umpire revenues, lowering overhead as a percentage of sales, and increasing efficiency.
- Election Reform needs to be a priority. The Membership needs more information about the candidates to make an informed decision.
As you can see, there is much still to do. I will help get it done.
So, why did I resign as Treasurer in August if I am running again in September? The bottom line is--I made a mistake! I should not have resigned. I will provide the details as to why I did at an appropriate time before the election. In the meantime, I authorize the Board to release my letter of resignation to the membership.
I would like your vote! I will continue working hard to grow NBUA.
