NBUA 2006 Board of Directors Election
Considerations for potential BOD Candidates
By Gary Coy
Election Committee Chairman
Eleven things for potential candidates to consider before throwing their hat into the ring.
Must have the time.
Family issues, job issues, personal issues, etc. can all be detrimental to the most well intentioned board member.
Board business is conducted year around. There is no "off season".
Have support of wife, husband, or significant other.
Monthly board meetings that can last late into the evening.
Frequent telephone calls regarding member issues, committee responsibilities, and board business.
Large volume of daily e-mails that require a response. More and more board business is conducted via e-mail rather than at meetings.
Must have the time and desire to respond and contribute thoughtfully. Must be capable of respecting dissenting opinions.
Want to serve for the right reasons.
Loyalty to NBUA
Must commit to the full two-year term.
• Possess good communication and reasoning skills.
Capable of working constructively with other board members and the assignor.
Possess the work habits to complete tasks within proscribed time limits.
Be able to maintain confidentiality regarding information that is properly deemed to be of sensitive nature.
Dedicated to adhering to our charter, bylaws, and policies and procedures. Interested candidates should communicate intent to run for one of the five, two-year term open positions in writing by e-mail only to Gary Coy at gary901c@comcast.net no later than midnight on Friday, 15 Sept. 2006.
