| Tuesday, August 15, 2006 NBUA officials shine in inauguaral Mariner Cup games
Last weekend, 12 NBUA volunteers successfully worked the Inaugural Mariner Cup Series. Three games were played at Safeco Field between top high school prospects from Northwest schools and Southern California schools. See the team rosters here. Working the plate as part of a four man crew were Bill Fitzgerald (game 1), Greg Chafe (game 2), and Marc Forsythe (game 3). The other crew members over the weekend were Dave Warner, John Philbeck, Mike Brancheau, Bill Lewis, Rick ONeill, Jay Neff, Mike Carter, Steve Lynch and Kris Carlstedt. The event was very successful in the eyes of the Seattle Mariners, as it is a recruiting tool for them, as well as a Mariners Care fundraiser. All the Mariner officials and participant team officials were very appreciative and complimentary of the umpire crews for all games. We should look forward to bigger and better things next year. There was much discussion of expanding the Mariner Cup to 3 or 4 teams. All of these umpires represented NBUA well, and we are well situated to having this opportunity again next year. Congratulations to all the umpires who worked!
