Will your game get in? Check the Doppler
by Ted Buehner The National Weather Service Seattle has just posted a new on-line
weather educational training module regarding how to use Doppler weather
radar. The module can be found as a headline at weather.gov/seattle/
The module is less than 10 minutes in length and introduces you to the
local Doppler weather radar page and how to use it. The radar output is
a great tool as you prepare for your game on those days when weather is
threatening. Even Leslie uses it to help her monitor what is going on
during those wet days.
In addition, more and more wireless hand held devices offer Internet
service and permit viewing Doppler weather radar output at the field to
help supplement your rainout vs delayed game decisions. I personally
have used Doppler weather radar for these decisions several times over
the past few years by asking the coach to use his office PC during a
delay and view the output with him. The coaches walked away saying
'wow' and it helps demonstrate our effort to get the game in.
I hope you enjoy the short Doppler weather radar module and it helps
integrate its use into your game day decisions. |
