New Board Member Selection Process

by Dave Natali
Vice President

The Northwest Baseball Umpires Association, with the recent resignation of Ken Sack from the Board of Directors, is initiating the process to find his replacement. Our Association bylaws allow the Board to simply appoint a new member. Although we are sad to see Mr. Sack leave, the current Board is very excited about this opportunity and believes that this is a tremendous opportunity to name a dynamic person to represent you.   As many of you have commented, the Board has been very active and is excited to continue moving our Association to be the best and provide what is best for you, the members. The process will be expedited to name a replaced Director as soon as possible and hopefully have them in place for the next Board Meeting on March 15, 2005.

If you are that dynamic person that believes your services will improve and benefit the Association as a Board Member or you know of such a dynamic person, the process will be as follows:

Letter of Interest - Submit a letter to Mr. Scott Johnson via email no later then midnight on February 25, 2005.

This letter should describe, in 400 words or less, the qualities and attributes that you would bring to the Board of Directors, your understanding of the time commitment associated with serving as an NBUA Board Member, relevant professional experience that would be beneficial to the Board and any main topics of focus you believe the Board should address. A professional resume may also accompany your letter and should not be considered part of the 400 word letter of interest.

Candidate Review - Current Board Members will review and discuss all submissions by prospective candidates. After the discussion, a list will be generated to establish a number of top candidates.

Candidate Interviews - Brief 10 minute interviews will be conducted on the morning of March 5, 2005 with Board Members prior to the NBUA Business Meeting at Eastside Catholic.

Board Review/Selection - A final review, discussion and subsequent selection will be made by the Board of Directors. The selected candidate will be informed of that selection by the President or his designee. All other candidates will be informed of their status and thanked for their unselfish offer to serve the membership.

Announcement to the Membership - Once the successful candidate has been notified and all reasonable attempts have been made to notify all other candidates, an announcement will be made on nbua.com. An email will be sent to all umpires directing them to the website for the announcement of a new Board Member.

Please notice that there in no reference in the above information about the umpiring abilities of the prospective candidates. The Board is looking for a candidate that will benefit the Association from a professional growth and business aspect.  While umpiring ability can be beneficial in discussions, it is not a requirement.
