Dust off the used gear, sell it online at

By Scott Johnson

For years Paul Pioli has set up shop at the spring Business Meeting accepting used gear to sell to new umpires. This worked well in that new umpires can save money on equipment, while gear junkies can get some cash to help finance their new West Vest Platinum.

There were downsides, however. You had to get the gear out of storage, set a price each item, drag it all to the general meeting and hope it sells so you don't have to drag it home. Plus it was only one day per year. If it didn't sell, you'd have to store it for another year. And this didn't help the folks who decided to leave the association. They certainly don't want to spend a day at our meeting hoping their gear sells.

Well, at the Indicator offices, we are establishing a used equipment consignment page. This page will be available year round to buy and sell equipment. Here is how it works:

Send me information about the item. For example you may describe it as "Honigs K1 Pro Elite Chest Protector, 12", Navy. Like New" and then assign a price. You can also include a digital photo if you wish. I will then link your email to the item, so if a buyer is interested he can contact you directly and you both finalize the sale and arrange delivery.

The upsides to this system besides being available year round, is that your gear doesn't leave the garage until it is sold. Plus its one less thing for you to worry about during that very busy Business Meeting date.

So if you have equipment to sell, email me a description, condition of the item, price, digital picture if available and email address for buyers to contact you. If you have multiple items, send me the information in line item form, not in a continuous block of text.

Go to the "Links" column and click on the ugear! link.

Now where did I put my used gear...
